The Animal Welfare Act aims to better the lives of animals used in research, teaching, testing, and exhibition. Therefore, it is important to understand the behavioral management of animals, which refers to improving the welfare of animals in captivity. This can be accomplished through a behavioral management program, which involves the use of environmental enrichments, social housing, animal training, and understanding normal and abnormal behaviors.
The Animal Welfare Information Center(AWIC) provides
Canned literature searches (pre-determined search strategies),
Bibliographies,
Reference guides,
Symposium presentations, and
Other resources on each of these behavioral management program components.
These resources can help you better understand the animals you're working with, what enrichments to provide, strategies for social housing, and different training techniques
